Berca Mud Volcanoes – Pensiunea Vulcanii Noroiosi
The Berca mud volcanoes are part of a geological and botanical reservation where gas erupts from 3000m below the earth’s surface forcing the clay and water (mud) that they travel through to bubble at the surface, typically a few meters in height.
To visit them you can travel by car (they are 20 km from Buzau) or there is accommodation at Pensiunea Vulcanii Noroiosi. It is not worth travelling if it is raining or has recently rained as you cannot see them properly (the mud cones will have been destroyed by the rain). The volcanoes can be see in two places: Paclele Mari and Paclele Mici.
