Antipa Museum of Natural History
The “Grigore Antipa” National Museum of Natural History is one of the most popular museums in Bucharest and is a great museum for families to visit. The dinosaur exhibition is obviously a big draw for most children, but the museum’s other collections are also really well presented and use interactive displays and hands-on experiences. You can easily spend your day here as the exhibitions cover local and global plant and wild life
The museum is located on Piata Victoria itself and is therefore well served by public transport. After you visit there are lots of options for eating nearby on Str. Nicolae Titulescu, or for running off energy in Kiseleff Park. The museum also hosts workshops, conferences and a summer school.

The collections are important for Romania. The most interesting thing is that scientists work in this building and their work is used to build the collections so the museum is quite “young” and interesting by that.
My son had a science field trip here, and we used to spend hours here when my children were pre-schoolers. They also host traveling exhibits, like dinosaur skeletons and one on spiders, that are especially fascinating. Not the place for strollers, but your kids will absolutely love this place.
We brought our one year old here recently. She really enjoyed looking at all the animal exhibits, especially the large elephant and bears. Apart from the stairs the rest of the route around the museum was pretty child friendly. She could walk around easily without fear of tripping over anything. I would recommend this as a nice way to spend an hour or so. It’s a good indoor option for cold/rainy days.
We visited the Natural History Museum with our 3-year old girl and our one-year old baby boy. Our pre-schooler really enjoyed identifying the different animals and our baby was happy enough to make animal noises, but got a bit restless as we got to the third floor.
It took us about an hour to go around the museum – we weren’t going too fast, but we didn’t stop to read any of the information boards.
If, like us, you take a buggy, you will have to carry it between the floors – we didn’t see a lift.
